I’m passionate about amplifying the humanity in breast cancer treatment and the agency of Black Breast Cancer patients through writing, conversation, and advocacy.

As the lead canner for the entire growing operation, I am responsible for product creation, food safety, and the organization and planning of large-scale and time-sensitive kitchen sessions. Further, as an educationally-geared nonprofit, I instruct farming interns in water bath canning, food safety, and commercial preservation.

Introduction to Creative Nonfiction

The internship role allowed for a broad introduction to non-profit organic farming, including: leading volunteer groups with an emphasis on volunteer engagement and hands-on learning; learning regenerative agriculture strategies, such as carbon sequestration, to combat greenhouse gas emissions; managing and maintaining crops (in high tunnels and in the field), seeding schedules, and tractor equipment.

Cataloged a private, outdoor sculpture collection from scratch, including primary and secondary art history research as well as content creation. Oversaw the creation of a digital resource archive; worked closely with metadata, CSV, drone footage, and data integrity. Managed two student workers; edited their content creation and determined their deliverables.

Sanibel Island, Fl

Presented island history and wildlife education with an emphasis on passenger interaction. Maintained vessel. Handled payment, took reservations, opened and closed the business daily, answered phones.

Switzerland

L'Abbaye de Salaz is a family-owned vineyard that also hosts catered events. My responsibilities included: harvesting grapes, labeling wine bottles, and aiding in all stages of the wine-making process. Also plated dishes, served meals and wine, bused tables, and washed dishes for events.

Lewiston/Auburn, Maine Area

Completed a self-designed, fictional short story project entitled “Lewiston-Auburn: Short Stories from My Hometown.” Researched history, current events, and cultural backgrounds through means such as academic text and personal interviews.

Yarmouth, Me

Edited manuscripts of fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books and wrote press releases. Marketed and distributed products; met with existing and potential buyers for sales. Constructed computer databases to organize contacts in New England libraries, local and national media, reviewers and buyers. Learned office and administrative skills, which included answering phones, filing, writing letters, filling orders, and communicating with authors and illustrators.
