For the past decade, I have worked hard to establish my place in the world and prove that I am a force to be reckoned with. I am always ready to pick up new skills and knowledge in any role I take on, and I can offer strong organisational and interpersonal skills. I have the confidence and flexibility to tackle new work environments, and the desire to inspire those around me during the one, small life that I get to lead. Graduating during the pandemic initially felt like 12 steps backwards, compared to the usual 2, and I was worried it would put my future on hold. I have always had big plans with lots of steps, and not much room for error. However, COVID-19 had other ideas, and forced me to reevaluate the way I navigate through my personal and professional life. It was eye-opening to realize that I may not have as much control over my circumstances as I once thought, and while it is still necessary to think ahead, it is more important to be forgiving in times of extraordinary stress, and know when it is okay to take a break from overdrive once in a while. I took the time to diversify my skill set: trying out a job as a farm hand and learning to grow my own food, working with the bright minds of the younger generations. And as I look back on my time during quarantines and lockdowns, I’m glad I took 12 steps backwards, because it turned out I needed to head in a new direction anyway.
