My research focused on the synthesis of small molecule analogues of natural products obtained from daffodils. My main achievement was finding conditions to synthesise cyclic and acyclic molecules from anthranilamide and sugars. I am grateful for this opportunity which allowed me to improve my lab skills, chemical knowledge and spectra reading skills.

I worked as a medicinal synthetic chemist in the small molecules reserach department. My main role required me to apply and develop my skills in chemical synthesis, purification by flash column chromatography and molecular characterisation which was primarily by 1H NMR spectroscopy. In addition, other daily responsibilities included molecular design, lab maintenance and updating my electronic notebook. I also attended project meetings and presented my work to others which helped to improve my interpersonal and communication skills. I loved every minute of my placement.

My main roles included welcoming guests, setting up meeting rooms, serving food and drink around the premises and catering to any special requests the guests brought to our attention
