Theresa Thomas is currently the Founding Director of High School Academic Affairs/Principal at The SEED School of Miami. Director Thomas has been in this role for the last 5 years and came on board to support the successful building and implementation of their high school program. She is responsible for ensuring her team of teachers delivers on the school mission of providing a college preparatory education for all students at SEED Miami. During her time at SEED, in addition to building the academic program; she has reformed teacher development, built an Academic Leadership Team, and co-designed an Instructional Coaching Development Series for the on-boarding of new leadership team members. Her most notable accomplishment is, 100% of her her first graduating class successfully met all state and local graduation requirement and were accepted into a 2 or 4 year college or university. Of the graduating class, 77% enrolled in college immediately after graduation. Her second graduating class is well on its way with 100% of her scholars being accepted into a college or university. She started her work in education in New York City as a City Year Corps member where she focused on attendance, behavior, and academic initiatives to enrich the experience of middle school students in East Harlem. She then transitioned to Miami to teach reading and English at the middle school and high school levels before joining Miami-Dade County Public School’s Division of Academic Support. Working for the district, she was a Curriculum Support Specialist where she managed and supported the needs of leaders and teachers at five under-performing schools, helping to increase reading proficiency rates and teacher quality. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Miami in Education and Social Change and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from St. Thomas University. She holds a certificate in Inclusive and Ethical Leadership from the University of South Florida and is currently pursuing certificates in Project Management.
