I have always believed math was a powerful language and known it provides incredible insights. I began to explore how much of the world uses math early. My imagination could not have guessed what I was about to discover. In the midst of an applied math capstone, we were discussing how many of today's current big data problems are all seeking the same philosophical ends. Namely, how to 'shrink' the data set to the smallest possible representative set, while still preserving all the original information from the larger whole. In the end I became acutely aware of the power of math and gained a desire to spread its generalized adoption into everyday life. Ultimately, technology became an inescapable part of my path to uncovering math.My IT career began at the recommendation of a professor to join the Help Desk team for the College of Business at CSU. From there my exposure to IT expanded to multiple verticals including: infrastructure, virtualization, DevOps, cloud, system administration. Throughout this process however, my desire to merge math did not leave so where is the overlap? Finally, I found the convergence, personally was in data science. Essentially, all these devices that are smart in our life produce logs as and output for debugging. That same data can be used to correlate and identify underlying patterns and trends that improve or otherwise enhance the process, products or services. So whats missing?Well most companies are familiar with the word big data but have no practical solution to implement on their own. In addition, the foundation of all this is the IT operation. If that is outdated and inefficient, implementing a Continuous Integration solution is not an option, let alone advanced automation scripting or Machine Learning/ A.I. applications.
