Creative And Marketing Director

Dallas/Fort Worth Area

When I first met the original founders of this festival, it was a three day one weekend event with a handful of movies. The experience I had helping develop this festival into a week long annual event with thousands of attendees each year was amazing, and set the ground work for a lot of what I would do after this. This is where I learned to organize and build and negotiate with people and companies all around the world. After we developed the Board of Directors and turned this thing into a full fledged non-profit. I settled into the role of Chief Creative Director and Chief Marketing Office for most of my time going forward with the festival. I enjoyed different roles over the years, but I chief focus was for the "look and feel" of the festival and expanding our marketing presence. In this role I worked with brands like McDonald's and Nissan and designed tray liners, ads, animated spots and billboards for festival related marketing and advertising. I worked with industry leaders like Well Go USA bring some of the best films and creative experiences to DFW. I worked with many filmmakers across the world to help hone their messages and develop their content for the film festival circuit. At times, I was responsible for organizing and running the festival as well as programming content and securing venues. I also help book filmmakers and film stars for the festival.I worked with many prominent organizations in Dallas to coordinate events and community programs. The festivals primary focus was to showcase films and filmmakers that would not otherwise get attention in Dallas or in the United States at all in many cases. I produced and provided art direction for five films over the years at AFFD.

Jun 2003 - Jan 2016

Lead Of Customer Products

In this role my team was responsible for working with the Sales and Marketing to improve the commercial customer experience through our online platforms. We created a customer and sales network leveraging SharePoint as well as other web property tools to create specialized portals for customers like Sprint, Dallas Independent School District, Tarrant County, etc...I also worked with HR and the Corporate Communications team to create communication strategies leveraging SharePoint. We created mechanism to break down communication barriers that were limiting access to many of the field team members that did not always have access to a work station. Traditional email was limiting and messages were often lost in the avalanche of other competing messages that filled many team members Inboxes. We created communication points that were integrated across several mediums that created a more cohesive interaction with leadership.

Aug 2008 - Nov 2008

Business Analyst \ Information Architect

Responsibilities included planning and execution of detailed tasks on projects related to implementing and maintaining MOSS/SharePoint sites for my business partners. Information and policy management of critical lines of business and work streams. Managed Multi-Million dollar budget, responsible for Consultant budgets and workloads.Responsible for business partner interactions and understanding their business needs as well interpreting those needs into viable MOSS/SharePoint solutions and managing those needs through the full development life cycle. Participated on many different teams, that use my problem-solving skills to develop and implement business solutions using MOSS/SharePoint. Including the Point of Sale team, the corporate communication team, the sales team and the marketing team.Business Analyst for new portal solution MOSS/SharePoint. Responsible for finding a new solution to replace old portal. Old portal consisted of five different legacy systems, including an installation of SharePoint 2003.

Aug 2006 - Nov 2008

Senior Sharepoint Analyst

I was the Business Analyst and Information Architect for our MOSS\SharePoint 2007 deployment. I was in charge of finding, developing, planning and implementing MOSS as the new portal solution for FedEx Office.Provided expertise on integration of Kinkoโ€™s systems with FedEx systems in the WSC(s). Developed training manual and conducted training classes (50+) of FedEx employees on Kinkoโ€™s systems. Managed development team to provide customized business solutions. Managed support team during the successful installation of 175 centers in a 48 hour period. Provided onsite training for installation vendors while providing 24 hour support to the WSC.I championed and secured a multi-million dollar budget to implement one of the first ever successful SharePoint 2007 deployments in an enterprise environment at a major company. This was before SharePoint was the surprise billion dollar golden child for Microsoft in 2007/2008. I learned alot from this twelve month long project. I learned to put together an integrated team, with Microsoft folks, consultants and team members. I learned how to get buy in from key resources to ensure what we were building would work. But, most of all I learned that alot of the work in getting any portal or CMS in place and successful isn't technical, it is about working with the right people and addressing the deeper challenges, not just the surface level pain points.

Feb 2003 - Jul 2006

Senior Engineer

When I joined Kinko's I was thrown into the fire. On the road from Ventura, California to Dallas, Texas within hours of setting foot in the door. I joined just as we implementing the first test stores with the self service printing and computer services software known as "ExpressPay". It is a revenue capture system designed to reduce revenue loss due to customer โ€œwalk-outโ€ of over $76 million annually at the time. It allowed the store to refocus labor on more important tasks and lead to significant improvements in customer service. I lead the effort to develop and implement a quality control matrix that tracked defects and historical data for all ExpressPay releases to minimize issues post-deployment. Using my network skills from previous experiences, I utilized existing hardware in store and created a mechanism for us to remotely connect to stores, manage them and deploy updates. This may not seem that special now, but in 2000 it was "cutting edge" stuff.I learned alot in these early years at Kinko's. I started on a team that was small but efficient and I survived the move from California to Texas and became a key resource almost overnight. I was responsible for the budget, the design and build out of the new Kinko's lab when we moved to the Galleria in Dallas. I was able to create a configurable works space that could be used for research and development as well as QA and troubleshooting. With a few clicks we could configure a real store environment that matched almost any configuration in the field and get to the bottom of critical issues quickly. I also had the lab wired to our IT floors 20 levels above the lab so we could work from our desks while still being connected to a lab environment or even a real store in the field. It changed everything for us.

Aug 2000 - Jan 2003

It Support And Services Supervisor

Carnegie General Insurance

The beginning of my work career began as a support specialist for a small insurance management agency. I wasn't afraid to apply my computer and printer knowledge at work. I became "the IT guy" at Carnegie. I learned several programming languages (RPG, CL etc.) for the AS400. I wrote several programs and decided I would rather focus on the new Windows Server platform and Networking opportunities that were arising in the late 90's. I was one of the first techies in line to get my Microsoft certification. I passed most of the tests quickly just with knowledge I already had. I also applied my academic acumen to getting some Cisco certifications too. I helped the local community college establish and run one of the first Networking college courses. The more I learned, the more I realized I had outgrown my opportunity at Carnegie. It was hard to leave the great people there, many of whom I have stayed in contact with all these years later.I had many great experiences there. We moved buildings twice and grew rapidly. I was responsible for getting us up on PCs and integrated with the legacy AS400 and dumb terminals that were on everyones desks. I worked with networking consultants and setup my first enterprise servers. I setup Exchange for the first time and ran that for years. I helped put together our printing and mailing system and manage that, often running it myself in the late hours of the night. I created the brand and logo for one of their subsidiaries that still exists today. I learned to people refer to the coding langauge RPG as "Our Pig". It was a great stepping stone to greater things.Windows NT Server SpecialistNetworking SpecialistPrinter Management ServicesDesktop Support ManagerBusiness AnalystDeveloper
