At the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, I became the lead on the microbiome portion of an epithelium-microbiome modeling project. More specifically, I cultured clinical bacterial isolates (BSL1 and BSL2) for use on a Organ-on-Chip 3D microfluidic device.Relevant experience gained:✅ Tissue culture training ✅ Culture of non-pathogenic and pathogenic clinical bacterial isolates in an anaerobic chamber✅ BSL1, BSL2, BSL2+ laboratory safety✅ Total RNA isolation, general cDNA synthesis, TaqMan RT-qPCR, and eGel loading and imaging✅ 3D microfluidic device maintenance and relevant analyses✅ Microplate assays (absorbance, fluorescence, and growth)✅ Bead-based ELISA (Luminex)✅ Documentation and organization✅ GraphPad and Microsoft Suite utilization

At R.I. Analytical Labs, I performed microbiological tests on drinking water samples for towns, residences, and industries as well as perform extensive documentation and work directly with customers. Here, I ensured public health regarding Escherichia, Pseudomonas, and Enterococcal contamination. Unlike a traditional tutor, I became a Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL ⭐) mentor for individuals in General Chemistry I and II. As a PAL mentor, I planned and held sessions for supplemental learning for students in general chemistry courses (as a peer who previously completed the course). To gain insight into the specific dynamic curriculum, I attended classes for both courses as well as met with professors to appropriately create helpful sessions.
