About Erin Giesler
I am devoted to teaching ESL, ELA, reading, writing, literacy, and math, while helping students achieve their highest potential through targeted, individualized instruction. I am passionate about helping students to understand and apply concepts they once found difficult, and love watching students learn and grow.I have been working in education for the last eight years. Through my experience as a public school teacher, I have designed and taught curriculum to kindergarten - 8th grade students in ELA, reading, writing, math, music, art, and band. To assist in delivering engaging instruction, I have applied to and won four grants, bringing in thousands of dollars of new materials and equipment. As a learning partner with Bansho, I assess students to determine their academic level, and then create individualized instruction, designed to meet their specific needs. I also teach ESL online, using TPR (Total Physical Response), props, vocal variation and excitement to keep students engaged. I correct errors positively and gently and guide students to the correct pronunciation. Building relationships with all of my students has been a key factor in my success as a teacher and tutor, and I enjoy ensuring all of my students feel heard, understood, and accepted. As a math and reading interventionist at with AmeriCorps, I created and taught individualized math and reading lessons to small and large groups of identified students, helping 64% of these students reach proficiency by the end of the school year. I also reinstated the choir and directed several performances.
