Have you ever felt unseen or mischaracterized by an assessment? My career trajectory could have gone in a very different direction when I was 14 years old and a high school guidance counselor used one report card and five minutes with me as their basis for concluding that I probably wouldn't graduate high school. I determined that day that I was going to prove them wrong, but I never would have guessed that I would have the opportunity to protect other people from having a similar experience.That is the crux of what I do as an Industrial Organizational Psychologist. My professional “why” is to leave things better than I found them in the hope that people who can resonate with 14-year old me find a renewed sense of trust when they see how much getting it right for them matters to me and to those I work with.
