Completing three site-based rotations within the Humes, Concrete and Aggregates Business Units.During my first rotation at Humes, I successfully improved the efficiency of product quality control documentation and identified areas for improvement in production procedures to drive constant optimisation. I also improved the safety of a production line by successfully eliminating trip hazards and reducing the risk of injury. These tasks and achievements enabled me to hone my skills in process optimisation and safety, as well as project management.Furthermore, I am leading two key engineering projects that aim to drive sustainability. The first project investigates the opportunity to reduce steel reinforcement in small concrete products, reducing costs and emissions while improving labour efficiency. The second project involves managing the displacement of a large mechanical structure, which requires liaising with suppliers, contractors and stakeholders, and conducting cost-benefit analyses.I have also undertaken complex challenges outside of my field of specialty, such as designing and managing the manufacturing of equipment that has optimised process safety and efficiency. These challenges have exposed me to other fields of engineering, including mechanical and structural, which has expanded my breadth of knowledge and enabled me to acquire new skills, such as structural design and isometric drawing.

As an Operational Support Technician, I was responsible for conducting water sampling at high-risk outlets to identify contamination and reduce the risk of infections to patients and staff. This multifaceted position involved liaising with hospital staff, patients, and the public, as well as traveling to various sites across SEQ. During my tenure, I enhanced my stakeholder engagement and communication skills, as well as my ability to perform technical water sampling in compliance with regulations. My efforts resulted in commendations from colleagues, hospital staff, and patients for effectively supporting the monitoring and management of water quality and safety at sites of interest. Moreover, I successfully contributed to the elimination of bacteria and viruses, such as Legionella and HPC, in hospital water streams.

As an Undergraduate Water Quality Consultant, I provided support in writing reports, creating and editing operational support presentations and documentation, and transforming physical documentation into digital interfaces. I also conducted sample result calculations, developed standard procedure documentation, and provided assistance where needed.During this internship, I honed my time management and technical skills, including risk assessment, technical report writing, and creating cloud-based documents. I also gained a strong awareness of health compliance regulations and their importance in protecting people and the environment.

As a Research Intern, I had the opportunity to work with a PhD candidate and a senior research fellow on a project that aimed to investigate the effect of inclination on the separation efficiency of a hydrocyclone. My responsibilities included sample preparation, laboratory testing, and data collection and analysis. Through these tasks, I honed my skills in experimental design, data analysis, and report writing.In addition to the technical aspects of the project, I also took on various project management duties, such as data collection and maintenance, reporting, resource management, and communication with third-party suppliers. These responsibilities allowed me to develop skills in project engineering, communication, and time management.As a Chemical Engineering and Business Management student, this experience provided me with valuable hands-on experience in research, data analysis, and project management, which are essential skills in the industry.

The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members has been particularly valuable in achieving sales and service delivery targets. In addition to my technical skills, my experience in customer service has allowed me to develop a customer-centric mindset, enabling me to better understand and anticipate the needs of clients. Overall, my experience in this role has provided me with a strong foundation in customer service, communication, and teamwork. These skills will be paramount in my future endeavors as a Process Engineer, as I seek to solve complex problems and drive innovation in the industry

In this leadership role, I was responsible for delivering high-quality service and assistance to customers in line with established targets. To achieve alignment of services, I facilitated communication and information-sharing within the team by distributing and sorting correspondence.One of the critical aspects of my role was building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and third-party vendors. By doing this, I ensured the availability of necessary resources to improve service delivery. This required me to hone my negotiation skills and balance conflicting interests to achieve optimal outcomes.As a Chemical Engineering and Business Management graduate, this role helped me develop skills that will be crucial for my success as a Process Engineer. For example, managing resources and optimizing service delivery required an analytical mindset and strategic thinking, two essential attributes for an engineer. Similarly, the ability to build and maintain relationships is vital for a manager to possess, and this role allowed me to practice and perfect these skills.

In this internship, I optimised product delivery procedures by developing process flowsheets and coordinated sales and customer data on the virtual platform PRONTO. I also gained valuable experience in quality assurance by performing laboratory testing to ensure compliance with industry standards. Additionally, I contributed to the company's risk management efforts by preparing risk assessment documentation to inform the development of standard procedures and policies.This role enabled me to apply the skills I learned acquired during my studies. I honed my skills in process optimisation, data analysis, and risk management. The quality assurance duties required attention to detail and a rigorous approach to data collection and analysis, skills that are crucial in Chemical Engineering. Furthermore, the preparation of risk assessment documentation demanded a proactive and detail-oriented approach to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations. Overall, this internship provided me with a foundation for success as an engineer.
