About Esther Oyedele

A first-generation black female scholar with a Bachelor's degree in Geophysics from the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Nigeria, and a Master's degree in Geology from Bowling Green State University, Ohio, USA. Currently, I am studying for my Doctoral degree in Geosciences at Virginia Tech, Virginia, USA.My academic research revolves around the comprehensive study of droughts in the southwestern United States. I employ a multidisciplinary approach, combining satellite observations, hydrologic data, and climate information to gain a deep understanding of the impacts of ongoing drought conditions in the region. I have been opportune to present my research papers at conferences and science workshops hosted by several associations such as the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Geological Society of America (GSA), the United States Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF), and the EarthScope Community.After completing my PhD, I am deeply motivated to continue my research and contribute to addressing pressing environmental and geospatial challenges. My ultimate goal is to leverage the knowledge and expertise I've gained during my doctoral studies to make a meaningful impact and address the pressing environmental challenges as it relates to national security. In particular, I am highly interested in pursuing a career as a researcher with organizations like NASA or the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
