I worked as a botanist for the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska. This position required extensive time in the field conducting plant surveys. I regularly identified over 100 species of plants, mosses, lichens and ferns. I also participated in the nationwide Seeds of Success program, collecting appropriate wild seeds for seed banking.

Durango, Colorado

I worked all roles at a small, craft donut shop in Western Colorado. This position required getting up at 3 AM, baking donuts and opening up shop without supervision. I responsibly handled the till and made sure all pre-orders were fulfilled on time.

Mt. Eolus

I worked on a crew of 8 people to restore an old trail and build a new trail in a remote mountain basin in Colorado. We worked 8-day hitches in the backcountry. We gathered hundreds of grass and sedge plugs to revegetate the old trail. We also built a 300-step rock staircase up the mountain slope as a more durable trail. This position required working and living with a small crew of people in a hazardous work environment. We frequently had to consider hail and thunderstorms, and we constantly moved rocks up to 2000 pounds around with our bodies. This level of danger required clear and precise communication at all times.

I worked for the Chicago Botanic Gardens on their Dimensions of Biodiversity project. My tasks included caring for the garden of various species of Oenothera plants, doing pollinator observations for hawkmoths on these plants, and recording the seedset and fruit count of the plants. Additionally, I carried out an independent research project on the floral preferences of native bees. I gathered bees during the morning, afternoon, and evening in four different habitats throughout the summer. I then identified the species of pollen and number of pollen grains from each plant species that the bees carried. I used this data to discern which plants bees preferred to forage on during different times of day. Across all bee species, there was a preference for rose and penstemon plants in the morning. Throughout the day as pollen resources became depleted, the bees tended to reflect a more generalist foraging habit. I turned this research into my senior thesis.

I taught a month long ceramics class to 6 beginners. We covered how to throw bowls, mugs, plates, and other forms. Additionally, we learn how to pull handles off of mugs, use iron oxide to make designs, and to glaze the pots.

Manages general herbarium tasks, such as mountain plants, organizing plants taxonomically, database entry, and collecting and drying specimens. I stayed in this role for over two years and became familiar with databases and plant taxonomy.

I advised a hall of 16 freshman and sophomore residents. My hall was themed 'Arts for Social Change'. I would frequently create events for my residents to attend, fostering a strong community within my residents. I also patrolled the residence hall, and worked at the front desk of the building.

Cape Coat, Ghana

I studied the effects that hydrographic factors, such as pH, salinity and DO, had on the juvenile fish species composition in a mangrove ecosystem. We found some cool results, and are currently waiting to hear back about publishing the paper in the Regional Studies in Marine Science journal
