Following an International Webinar hosted by Abrafeu in March, I noted that the lack of genetic testing and a patient registry in Brazil was a significant obstacle to improving patient care and testing readiness in Brazil. In response, I have begun to develop a national network of 18 neuromuscular clinicians, universities, and clinics that will collaborate to collect and provide affordable genetic testing for Brazilian patients in collaboration with Genoma from USP-SP and My FSHD laboratory at the University of Nevada. Also, during this same period, we developed an agreement to create a unique database for national registration based on a cell phone application. I initiated a collaboration agreement between Radboud University in the Netherlands and Instituto Vita in São Paulo during the same period to prepare physical therapists for patient support and FSHD clinical assessments in Brazil.
