This was a short stay because not long after being hired, which is a lengthy story, Microsoft Corporate outsourced our division to India. While I was offered the opportunity to stay at Microsoft, I decided contracted employment wasn't the career route I was looking for.

Working in a team of three senior systems engineers to support the infratstructure of 70+ servers for 1800+ client systems. Our systems were integrated with legacy and current IBM technologies like the OS/390, and AS/400 systems which were supported in other departments. We had a great team, and I know we accomplished some amazing solutions. In fact, I'm pretty sure my Perl Script FTP Proxy server which was designed to give users a network share to drop files, which then uploaded them to MainFrames internally, and externally, and maintained version control is still in use today.

I was trained as an Electronics Technician on communication and data services systems, but rapidly became involved in the computer industry while on my first assignment in 1995, when the IT industry was still in it's infancy in the corporate world and military bases, let alone on sea going vessels. Tactical computers were far different than administrative and logistics ones. In 1996 I deployed e-mail onobard my ship at a time before most ships were even considering the option. I recieved a Navy Achievment Medal for my success on this project. By the time I left the Navy, and the USS Fife, I had led the deployment of Windows NT Domain infrastructure to 70 PC's, upgrade the entire server architecture from Novell to Windows NT providing email, file sharing, printing, and internet services, delivering all available unclassified data and applications with one cross connected network.
