'Before moving forward, it is necessary to heal.'This sentence is among several sources of resistance, research and knowledge. Restated by different voices, the most recent time I heard it was in an interview by Emicida. This sentence moves me in the direction of defending memory and history as part of a community and a culture, knowing that the transition to a less violent community, in which social justice prevails takes time, dialogue and change. From this restlessness, during my undergraduate, I fell closer to the matters of criminal law and criminal justice. I pursued internships in the area and, after graduating, I started practicing law as a lawyer. Recently, I finished my Master's (LLM) in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Queen's University Belfast in the United Kingdom, having been awarded a full-time scholarship by the UK government, the Chevening Scholarship (FCDO I UK). Today I have the goal of working in NGOs among other organisations, building up a career focusing in the promotion and defence of human rights by transforming institutions, especially within the criminal justice and public security. I believe in the necessity and importance of approaching the institutions to the population to strengthen democracy. I believe in public security built upon the respect and preservation of life. My Master's dissertation was titled ‘A comparative study through a critical criminology approach of the transitional process of policing in Northern Ireland after the Belfast Agreement and Brazil’s 1988 New Democracy’ and it made it possible for me to research in loco the changes to reduce institutional violence in Northern Ireland and the establishment of peace. Beyond those topics, I believe in the power of collective change, which led me to found the NGO Oásis de Sonhos back in 2016, through which the community is connected to promote the transformation of public spaces by renovating it. More recently, I was part of the organising committee of the 2021 edition of Brazil Forum UK as one of the finance coordinator and member of the logistics team. I was also the mediator of the panel 'Traditional Peoples and Human Rights in Brazil: what future do we want?'.
