Profile bio

About Fernando Silva

I received a BS in Environmental Science with a specialization in Human and Ecosystem Response to Climate Change. The degree focused on a variety of scientific fields like Geology, Chemistry, Ecology, and Conservation. Higher level classes centered around regulatory processes, several disciplines of policy like those associated with energy and land management, sustainability, basic GIS and Rstudio skills. As part of the degree program, I spent time In Belize as part of a small research group studying environmental impacts on tropical regions and the best conservation practices for said region. In more recent months, I received a certification in Environmental Management and Ethics as well as a certification in Global Environmental Management both from the Technical University of Denmark.Aside from my formal education that put emphasis on and grew my research proficiencies, I have professional experience working both alongside a tightknit team of people to resolve problems and meet deadlines, and interacting and collaborating one-on-one working with project partners to meet their project goals. As a Field Crew leader, my partner and I handled all communications and check-ins with partner organizations, such as the Forrest Service. As part of my responsibilities I was accountable for educating team members on proper tool use as well as recording daily project progress. I also served as an intermediary between our team and project partners. The The field Crew Leader position that I hold currently has given me the opportunity to expand my collection of skills by giving me certifications in trauma informed practices for CPR and Wilderness Advanced First Aid, B bucking with a chainsaw, and B bucking with a Crosscut saw. This position has given me the ability to use the skills I have learned while participating in MCC’s Leadership Development Program and on the job to work independently and in partnership with my Co-lead to manage and supervise projects while also helping my team apply and grow proficiencies of new skills and provide better services to our Project Partners while also helping with short- and long-term goals that they may wish to accomplish.
