Manager Of Estimating
As a Manager of Project Estimating for the Engineering & Construction group of NextEra Energy, I was responsible for leading our team's effort on our solar, wind, storage, transmission, substation, and gas pipeline projects. My role as manager concentrated on keeping tabs on the market as a whole, including the construction market, commodities, and the overall health of the economy. I also concentrated on developing and maintaining our estimating tools, maintaining relationships with contractors, developing talent, and reviewing estimates with staff and management. The team focused on various generation and transmission projects including wind, solar, DG solar, battery storage, transmission, distribution, substation, fossil simple & combined cycle, and natural gas pipelines.
Lead Project Estimator
In my role as Lead Project Estimator, I performed complete EPC estimates for wind, solar, fossil, energy storage, gas pipeline, transmission, distribution, and substation projects executed by NextEra and Florida Power & Light. I conducted site visits, reviewed schedules, met with engineers, interfaced with subcontractors, reviewed geotechnical reports, and did conceptual up-front engineering as required to accurately estimate project EPC costs. I worked along side project and construction managers during the development, pre-construction and execution phases of the project.I led our groups effort on all utility transmission, distribution, and substation estimates. These range in voltage from 4.8kV to 500kV and include projects all over the United States. I have also worked on HVDC projects.I am also led the estimating effort on all energy storage system projects from small residential installations of a few kWh to larger, utility scale installations upwards of 2000 MWh. These included battery storage and thermal storage projects. I developed and implemented the estimate process and estimate templates & models for this technology. I continued to support this effort as needed.I led the distributed solar generation estimating effort which included 50kW to 20MW rooftop, ground-mount, and carport projects. I developed and implemented the estimate process and estimate templates & models for this technology. I continued to support this effort as needed.I supported utility scale solar estimating as well, working on projects from 20MW to 200MW. I also support our effort on analyzing new technologies in the solar industry. Shortly, I will begin leading our groups effort on all fossil plant estimating, including all coal fired and gas fired simple cycle and combined cycle projects, as well as our gas pipeline projects.
Senior Estimator
I worked in CG's Commercial Operations group as the lead estimator performing estimates for our proposals for Engineering Only, EP Only, and EPC Projects. I also prepared schedules, bill of materials, scope of work documents, and any other documents required for our project proposals. The vast majority of these proposals were for high voltage substation projects, and I would typically produce 3 to 5 proposals a week.I supported PSE&G in an Owners Engineer role as the Lead Electrical Estimator . I assisted PSE&G with the substation expansion and upgrade of their high voltage networks..Major Projects (All PSE&G Area Networks with multiple substations): 26kV: East Rutherford Sports Complex, Gloucester 69kV: , Harrison, Mt Holly, Hawthorne, Riverside 230kV: Hasbrouck Heights, Linden-Newark Airport PVSC, Fernwood, SewarenI was responsible for all phases of the execution of the proposal. I prepared schedules, scope of work documents, cash flows, engineering estimates, construction estimates, bill of materials, and assisted in procurement & subcontractor negotiations.
Senior Estimator
I was a construction cost estimator for the Power Group of URS' Energy & Construction Division. I was hired on as an Entry-Level Estimator and was promoted to Estimator II & Senior Estimator. I also traveled and was on site frequently, providing cost analysis, project engineering, and project management inputs to our projects. In the Power Sector, I performed estimates in all disciplines for Air Quality Control System (AQCS) Upgrades, Nuclear Power Plants, Fossil Power Plants (Coal, Natural Gas, Cogeneration, Combined Cycle, Simple Cycle), Transmission Lines, Distribution Lines, Switchyards and Substations.Major Projects:> TVA – Lagoon Creek, Gleason, John Sevier, Bull Run, Paradise (Combined Cycle, AQCS)> MNES – North Anna, Comanche Peak (Nuclear)> Constellation – Brandon Shores (AQCS)> PSE&G Garden State Reliability Project, Burlington to Camden, NCRP, & NEG 138kV to 230kV (Transmission & Substation)> General Atomics – Next Generation Nuclear Power> LG&E - Mill Creek - AQCS (WFGD, SCR)> BP- Toledo Refinery Turnaround 2012 (Oil & Gas) - Lead Cost Analyst
