Lowland House

Lowland RFCA is one of 13 autonomous bodies, established to support the reserve forces and cadets in the lowlands of Scotland. With responsiblities for employer support, cadets, youth and management of estates.-Responsible for accounting, banking, investment and management of all funds and subsidiary supporting ledgers and documents.-Excercise financial controls over all income and expenditure-Grant Management-Production and closure of annual financial statements-Report to Board on Finance-Payroll and PensionIn August 2018 I was promoted to take on the additional responsibilities of HR, IT and the office.

SHIL is a not for profit organisation which aims to identify and develop Intellectual Property emanating from NHS Scotland. As Finance and Corporate Governance Manager my role was broad. My main duties included;Finance - Preparation of monthly Management Accounts, Payroll, Pension, Cashflow Management, Budget Management and reporting to the Board on Finance Grants- Identification and application for grant funding, management of existing grants, reporting on activityHuman Resources - Development of policies and procedures, advising the CEO and Board on statutory legislation, training Line ManagersCorporate Governance- Management of risk register and internal control systems Company Secretary - Managing the organisation of Board Meetings, updating the statutory books

SHIL was succesful in increasing its funding and expanded. I was promoted and my duties expanded. They included; Management of Core funding (ERDF, SE, CSO, HIE and BIS), Financial Management (cashflow, budget management), Human Resources (developed systems and trained Line Managers), Corporate Governance (developed and managed system of internal controls), Administration systems (reporting systems and facilities) and Company Secretary.

SHIL was set up in 2002 with public funding from the Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise in order to tap into the wealth of ideas within the NHS to improve healthcare. I joined as Office Manager at the beginning and was responsible for the set up of the initial office and took on a wide range of tasks. This included; running the SHIL office, setting up and and managing Administration Systems, Human Resources, Company Secretary, Grant Management, IT, bookkeeping and managing the Admin staff.

I volunteered for Diabetes Scotland helping them to identify and secure trust funding for specific Scottish based projects; such as careline and the Ayr holidays. My duties included; prospecting, preparing applications and following up on progress with funders. In addition, in the last six months I utilised my statutory funding experience to help them research and develop their statutory fundraising plan.
