About The Breastfeeding Network (UK)
Our vision is a society where mums, parents and families are able to make informed decisions about breastfeeding, to access help when they need it and to become confident in their choices. For a new mum or parent deciding how to feed their baby, talking to a trained volunteer who knows about breastfeeding can make a crucial difference and the Breastfeeding Network strives to be the best we can be at providing peer support. We aim to: - Inform, educate and support families in feeding and nurturing babies and young children; - Enable communities to support breastfeeding through sharing information, training and volunteering; - Contribute to evidence based policymaking for government, healthcare providers and educators; - Promote the mental and physical wellbeing of mothers and babies through supporting breastfeeding We have local services across the UK providing peer support at drop-in groups and antenatal classes, as well as in hospitals, children's centres, and family hubs. Our Drugs in Breastmilk Service provides information on the safety of medicines for each mother and baby pair, to enable mothers to breastfeed their babies for as long as they wish. We have over 70 factsheets covering a wide range of medications, procedures, and health issues. If you have further questions, you can contact our team of pharmacist volunteers by sending a private message via our Facebook page or via email: druginformation@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk. Enquiries will be answered as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours. Our National Breastfeeding Helpline (in partnership with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers) is a 24/7 service available every day of the year, offering non-judgemental, evidence-based, friendly breastfeeding and infant feeding support and information to anyone in the UK who needs it. The helpline is available 24/7 - 0300 100 0212. Peer support is also available on social media - Facebook or Instagram.
