Dr. Fishman is an Eye Physician and Surgeon in Palo Alto. Dr. Fishman has an MD PhD from Stanford in Analytical and Physical Chemistry, a post doc in Neuroscience, and was the former founder and director of the Stanford Ophthalmic Tissue Engineering Lab where his laboratory focused on the development of an Artificial Retinal Prosthesis and Stem Cell Transplantation for Macular Degeneration. Dr. Fishman is also co-founder of CoolDoctors (EyeCareLive), a mobile medicine health start-up specializing in a HIPAA secure mobile platform (iphone, Android, ipad, tablets) for ophthalmic and optometric medical exams.While at Stanford, Dr. Fishman gained a unique background in neuroscience, lasers, biosensors, lab-on-a-chip microanalytical chemical separations, tissue engineering, and physical and analytical chemistry. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in neuroscience. He then earned a Ph.D. from the Department of Chemistry at Stanford working with Professors Richard N. Zare and Richard H. Scheller. Dr. Fishman also conducted post-doctoral research in the Department of Neurobiology working in the field of nerve regeneration. He earned an M.D. from Stanford Medical School and completed a medical internship in San Francisco including training from San Francisco General Hospital. After his medical internship, Dr. Fishman joined the department of Ophthalmology at Stanford and founded and directed the Ophthalmic Tissue Engineering Laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Fishman then completed his residency training in advanced eye surgery and medical treatment for eye diseases at Stanford.
