I became a licensed irrigation contractor in 2001, after four years of working with a landscape company. While building and expanding my first business, Advanced Irrigation Systems, Inc., I learned a ton of business lessons that could only be learned in the real world.While the main business activity was designing, installing, and building automatic lawn sprinkler systems, I learned first hand how to hire and manage personnel and build a good staff (or team I prefer to call them.) Also I gained immeasurable experience working with customers in person.From my irrigation knowledge I wrote an e-book titled "How To Build Your Own Automatic Lawn Sprinkler System." While marketing the website where I sold the book (www.autolawnsprinklers.com), I learned search engine optimization (seo) which led me into my current business venture, www.floridaseopro.com.When the real estate market slowed down, so did a big part of my irrigation business. Luckily we built a big customer base on the maintenance side of the business. However I know look back at the decline in new construction as a blessing in disguise because it forced me to work even harder and smarter in order to survive.I still manage Advanced Irrigation Systems but plan to sell it within the next two years while I continue to grow my search engine optimization company, www.floridaseopro.com.
