The mission of buildchange.org is to greatly reduce deaths, injuries, and economic losses caused by housing and school collapses due to earthquakes, extreme weather and fires in emerging countries. Acting as the Lead Engineer in Colombia, I designed and transferred knowledge, technical and technological advice to the team of engineers and architects working with Bogota’s Caja de la Vivienda Popular, improving and enabling their skills to escalate a retrofit program officially aimed to assist owners living in informal unreinforced masonry housing.

The mission of bridgestoprosperity.org is to offer last-mile access to isolated communities in rural and urban areas, building footbridges in emerging countries, allowing people to have safe access to better opportunities, education, and markets.In 2018, as Program Manager in Nicaragua, I directed and coordinated operations in six different locations at the same time, building ten bridges over the year, involving local communities with hand labor, negotiating materials with local authorities and solving financing with multiple lenders.My duties took place during the worst political and social unrest Nicaragua has experienced this century. The following are some featured projects:o Metro de la 80, Medellin Tram/Light Rail Transit (LRT): As Project Manager, I coordinated a team of international experts in urban rail transit to provide technical advice to FDN – Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional and Metro de Medellin. Feasibility designs and value engineering workshops were offered in Medellin with key stakeholders involved in this project, which is likely to start construction stage in 2023. The level of complexity of this massive transit project demanded a great effort from our local team to provide products in Spanish coming from an English-speaking firm from the UK.o Global Program for Safer Schools: As part of this World Bank program, Arup provided technical advice to Dominican authorities assessing future and existing educational infrastructure and its vulnerability facing natural disasters expected in the region, such as hurricanes and earthquakes.

As project manager, I oversaw monitoring progress for a major feasibility study to define technical, legal, financial, environmental, and social aspects for six toll road projects part of 4G package procured by Colombia’s Infrastructure Agency (ANI).I coordinated a multidisciplinary group of engineers to design 13 new bridges located in critical places where flood and landslides damaged and destroyed existing ones in 2011, due to La Niña.

o As project manager, I oversaw monitoring progress for a major feasibility study to define technical, legal, financial, environmental, and social aspects for six toll road projects part of 4G package procured by Colombia’s Infrastructure Agency (ANI).o I coordinated a multidisciplinary group of engineers to design 13 new bridges located in critical places where flood and landslides damaged and destroyed existing ones in 2011, due to La Niña.

o I coordinated public stakeholders to draft strategic policies, programs and sustainable infrastructure projects, risk management, natural disaster response and provided technical support to GIS requirements.o I supervised the study for the optimal multimodal transport solution for the Orinoco basin region, which is the baseline for transport infrastructure projects in the region.o I assisted setting up public-private partnerships policies for unsolicited proposals for transportation infrastructure projects.

o I provided structural design in more than 75,000m2 of steel and reinforced concrete buildings, including advanced structural designs for El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, including deep foundation piles to bear loads in a poor soil.
