Francesca Olivieri is an associate professor (Profesora Titular de Universidad) at the Department of Construction and Technology in Architecture (DCTA) of Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain. She teaches building physics, sustainable design, and energy efficiency in buildings. Her research activity currently focuses on Nature-based Solutions (NBS) and its potential to improve the energy performance of buildings and to help cities to adapt to climate change. She also researches and writes about BIPV systems and Positive Energy Districts (PEDs). She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Univesità degli Studi di Camerino, Italy, and a Ph.D. on Thermal-energy performance and predictive models of green roofs and walls from UPM. She has participated as a researcher in more than 30 research projects, being the principal investigator in 10 of them. In the last few years, she has been the principal investigator of 2 international projects. She has published more than 30 research articles on indexed journals and she dreams of writing a book on NBS for architects. She holds two six-year research quality premium (sexenios de investigación 2009-2014 and 2015-2020) and she also has positions of responsibility in the management of academic bodies, being the vice Dean for Research, Innovation and Doctoral Programmes of the School of Architecture (ETS Arquitectura) and a member of the steering commitee of the Innovation and Technology for the Development Center (itdUPM).
