I listened closely to my Middle Country CSD guidance counselor who spoke well of the Eastern Suffolk BOCES (ESBOCES) program, leading me to enroll in the Brookhaven Technical Center’s (BTC) two-year course for high school juniors and seniors. I already knew that plumbers constitute the largest groups among the construction occupations and that salaries are among the highest. With graduation on the horizon, I needed to make a choice: go to college or begin working. I went right to work as a licensed New York State master plumber and then shortly after started my company now know as Reliant Plumbing. Shortly after the start of the business I began to expand and hire more employees. As the success of the business continued, I was then offered the position as the Plumbing instructor of the BOCES class I had graduated from. Since the placement in this new position, I have advised students who’ve gone on to win state competitions in this field as well as acquire employment positions in this field as well as within my own company. Now I have worked diligently to acquire my professional teaching license and am currently expected to receive a bachelor’s degree by the end of this year. My goals are to continue to build enthusiasm for my profession to encourage more young adults to enter the plumbing industry while continuing to expand the professional and reliable reputation of Reliant Plumbing.
