Policy
Managing European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) contribution to Action for Global Health and aiding the EPHA team on a related range of global health issues. Role was to increase and facilitate the engagement of the EPHA membership with global health issues as well as bringing a public health perspective to Action for Global Health. Event organisation and communication activities were therefore as important as traditional advocacy towards EU institutions.Major milestones included:• Participating in the DG Dev Civil Society Contact group and co-chairing the Commission / Stakeholder Global Health Policy Forum at its inception,• contributing to NGO EU positions (both EPHA’s and Action for Global Health) e.g. responding to the consultation on the EU’s role in Global Health, and drafting / editing briefings and Reports, • Attending events e.g. the 1998 UN Financing for Development conference in Doha, the World Health Assembly, GAVI partners forum, the EDDs, and the Joint Parliamentary Assembly.• co-organising the Conference on the Right to Health and the Health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the European Parliament, • organising and co-hosting a meeting with the World Bank as part of the series of meetings that initiated the new dialogue between the World Bank and civil society,• Participating in Concord groups– notably Aidwatch and the PCD taskforce,• Assisting strategic planning for EPHA in areas such as non-communicable diseases, trade and access to medicines, and the European Public Health and Agriculture Consortium,• Campaigning for innovative sources of development finance including the Robin Hood Tax.
