My name is Fred (Fengning) Luo, and I hold a BSc in Computer Science (Specialist) with a minor in Statistics from the University of Toronto, Class of 2023. During my undergraduate studies, I participated in the PEY (Professional Experience Year) program, completing a 14-month internship at AMD as a Continuous Integration and SW Automation Engineer. During this internship, I gained hands-on experience in automation, software development, and real-world problem-solving.I also interned at the Vector Institute, where I contributed to the development of scGPT, a GPT-based foundation model designed for single-cell biology. I focused on optimizing the model’s performance, using techniques like Flash Attention and LoRA to improve fine-tuning efficiency. Additionally, I co-developed an AI-chat system integrating OpenAI’s API and Streamlit, streamlining complex genomics tasks through natural language interfaces. This project not only improved my understanding of LLMs but also demonstrated how AI can enhance research workflows and empower data scientists.Currently, I’m pursuing an MSc in Applied Computing (MScAC) at the University of Toronto, focusing on AI and its real-world applications. As part of this program, I’m interning at Geotab, where I’m developing and maintaining the Generative AI Gateway. This platform supports internal developers by enabling millions of tokens in daily usage while optimizing system performance through features like load balancing, server reservation, and dynamic rate limiting.Through these diverse experiences, I’ve built a strong foundation in AI, cloud infrastructure, and scalable systems, and I’m eager to apply my skills to tackle real-world challenges and drive impactful innovation.
