I love complex problems, solving them, and achieving concrete outputs. Early on in my career those were local problems; things I could achieve on my own. Here I learnt not only to learn from others, but also where the rote wasn't enough, where the book solution either didn't work, or was out of date. I became comfortable going where there was no route-map, finding a new way, with a liberal dose of critical thinking.But, the bigger the problem, the more uncertain the right approach, and the more the team was the key. I learnt to be able to see the bigger, more abstract, picture - sensing the shape. I achieved qualifications in Advanced Systems Engineering - learning to pick apart at the system-of-systems level, and put it back together again with structures that helped direct progress down positive lines and deliver success. I moved from running individual projects to scoping and shaping whole programs. The technical skills didn't leave me, but now I could act as a bridge from business desires to technical meaning.I moved to a headquarters role, pulling together programs and people at an organisational level, shaping 10,000 and eventually 35,000 people into soft system forms that could deliver - still concrete outputs to complex problems, but now via an architectural focus.It's those skills, that perspective, that I offer. Big problems don't faze me, and big solutions entice me. A lifetime of learning how to solve those big problems, and a lifetime learning how to present those approaches, lead thought, and gain buy-in to an idea.I sit at a number of crossroads. Between management and technical. Between science and arts. Between old and new, and newer. Always on the look out for an interesting, complex problem that needs solving - an output that needs delivering.
