Tenant Development Manager (Atic)
Responsible for the delivery of the business support elements of a £2 Million ERDF funded programme and for the recruitment of suitable tenants to the Advanced Technology Innovation Centre prior to opening in September 2015.I was required to act as business consultant to SME’s in advanced technology fields and in doing so provided them with assistance to improve performance, develop collaboration, create new jobs and place graduates into their SMEs. This element of the project was judged to be “Outstanding” when assessed by the external evaluators Greenborough Management Ltd. I took responsibility for promoting the ATIC to stakeholders and potential tenants as well as developing the projects marketing and communications strategy. I was also responsible for procuring; brochures, promotional videos and advertising for the project and had significant input into the development of the Loughborough Science and Enterprise Parks (LUSEP) website. In terms of tenant recruitment I was targeted with an occupancy level of 50% on opening and we managed to achieve 60% this was despite the fact that the 18 month project was delayed by 8 months prior to me starting in post.

I estimate to have helped around 200 businesses start-up in the 6 years I worked as a Business Advisor for De Montfort University. I’m happy to say that many have kept in touch and still ask for my opinion when they need support or just a critical friend.During my time at DMU I was tasked with giving professional advice and guidance on enterprise, business start-up and funding to Innovation Centre tenants, staff members, students and graduates. This included bespoke advice on legal issues, financial issues, strategy, marketing, business planning, pitching and gaining access to funding.Tenant support focused on assisting businesses to improve performance by helping them to think strategically about their aims and objectives. I also helped tap clients into the myriad of support available through the wider university and external support agencies.Graduate support was provided largely through the Enterprise Inc scheme, a £3 Million ERDF part funded project that supported around 30 businesses a year at DMU. I took responsibility for project delivery both in terms of reporting and providing business advice.I lectured and held workshops on business planning, business processes and forecasting. I also wrote DMU’s “A Practical Guide to Writing a Business Plan” which was developed to help start-ups develop realistic plans.
