Looking back, I don’t think my answer to “what do you want to be when you’re older?” was honestly “an Asset Finance specialist”. I fell into it really when an exciting opportunity came up in a local Lombard office. From then on I have steadily advanced whilst constantly trying to learn and develop as I progress through my career.Since joining Lombard in 2003 I have watched with you, our industry creak and crack (then fall apart), this has certainly changed and shaped not just the industry but us as individuals; maturing our approach to lending, our considerations on balancing risk and, most crucially for me, the importance of developing enduring business partnerships.I thrive in rapidly growing, innovative organisations, I’m passionate about developing businesses and providing my knowledge and expertise in an environment that can use me fully. I’m keen to be challenged and work with people with a similar enthusiasm to succeed.When I’m not 'riding the waves of asset finance', I enjoy spending time with my wife and 3 kids, punishing myself in the gym and when I can, watch as much basketball and rugby as possible.

TransDiesel (“TDX”) brought me to NZ to establish their in-house finance offering and draw on my experience in setting up and running a vendor program. Our objective was to support our customers purchasing the group's equipment and provide them with competitive and creative solutions to financing.In 3 years I facilitated over $55m worth of finance agreements with our panel of lenders. We encouraged customers to look at what their business / cashflow needs and allow us to support them with solutions that matched this.Key achievements would include but not limited to; developing the funder panel to support all variation of customer and deal size, develop and establish in-house lease offering and documentation alongside rental products and successfully establish facilities for some of NZLs largest customers. TDX is the authorised New Zealand distributor for Volvo Construction Equipment, Yanmar Construction Equipment, Perkins engines, Kohler and Lombardini engines and generators, Shell oils & lubricants, Allison transmissions, Donaldson, Sakura, Griffin filtration and exhaust products.

On joining Ballyvesey Finance (“BF”) I had the joy of starting with a clean slate. However, this meant no funder trading agreements for introducing business, no credit lines for placing group cap-ex and just me to support the entire Ballyvesey Group both in the UK and Ireland for: Trailer Manufacturer - MontraconTruck & Van dealerships – Mercedes, Scania, DAF & FiatPlant & Machinery depots – numerous brands Within the first couple of years I developed a funding panel to cover the spectrum of opportunities we received from the above, ranging from sole-traders to large corporate entities and offering the finance products and rates appropriate to all of these customers. This entailed numerous presentations to banks and funding houses with attendees from front-end sales to Managing Directors. Gaining their buy-in and trust for our Group post-recession meant demonstrating how I wanted to grow mutually beneficial, long term partnerships with them – not just transactional broker type setups.In our first full year I introduced just over £7m for our customers, placed £10m of cap-ex for the group and had established 6 strong funding partners who we still work with. This has grown to a team of 5 BF sales reps placing over £40m of customer business to a panel of nearly 20 lenders.My role over these years has covered many angles of the finance industry; customer, supplier, vendor partner, broker, funder on our own book and so on; this has helped build an appreciation of the work that goes on at all levels, not just within in my business but also in our funders organisations, customers businesses and supplier’s setups.The key to success in all of this though has been building true business partnerships with whoever I’m dealing with. I’ve always strived to maintain high expectations of myself and how I represent the business and conduct myself professionally in whatever arena I am in.
