Gary J. Long has seen the game of baseball through the perspective of both a player and coach for a long time. He played high school baseball in Lufkin, Texas, then 2 years at Blinn College and went on to play Division One collegiate baseball with Texas Tech University. Out of college, he played professionally for the Texas City Stars. Gary then began his coaching career that has spanned over thirty years helping young athletes develop their game. He coached high school baseball in Nederland, Beaumont, Hays Consolidated, Del Valle, Austin Anderson and Westwood. He has also coached in Germany 3 times since 2011. As a coach, Gary has focused primarily on developing solid hitters. He became driven to understand why some athletes can hit well while others struggle. After years of studying and analysis, he has become a proponent of emphasizing centrifugal force in the rotational phase of the swing, which he believes is highly under coached. The results led him to develop the Rope Bat, a simple, yet challenging hitting aid that promotes the harnessing of linear forward movement and centrifugal rotational force to develop a powerful and sound swing. Through kinesthetic learning, the Rope Bat helps hitters understand and correct common problems with hitting, such as casting the bat, looping the bat or hitching - allowing them to transfer the Rope Bat swing to their real bat swing.
