I am delighted to have been appointed as Chair of Trustees for STaSS after volunteering as a trustee for the last year and a half. Despite media attention drifting towards more "current" threats; HIV and AIDS are still very much a huge part of many peoples lives. STaSS offer much needed support to those facing the challenge of living with or being affected by HIV and AIDS.

Working with young people within the care system to create “Life Story” books to help to make sense of their background. This work involved showing young people, (often those excluded from education) methods of creating their own story media whether in book form or on DVD/digital storage. Taking photographs and writing in a form that the young people could identify with.

Duties include, ageassessments, Initial and Core assessments, care planning and reviews, support with asylum claims and pathway planning. I am familiar with the Integrated Children’s System software used within Milton Keynes Children’s Social care.

Initially to work as a support assistant on a one to one basis with young people whose challenging behaviour put them at risk of exclusion and prevented them from reaching their educational potential. This role expanded to working with young people learning practical activities such as fence building, gardening and decorating as well as supporting them with I.T. and other formal study.

Supervising a team of residential staff providing accommodation for young people with challenging behaviour. As well as the day to day needs of the young people within our care, the role also required providing regular supervision for staff. In such a challenging environment the morale of my team was of foremost importance. The challenge of continually finding new ways to boost staff and engage young people drove me to discover new skills.

Whilst employed as a Secure Care Officer; I worked with some of the most challenging and vulnerable young people within the secure care environment. As a keyworker, the role entailed assisting with care planning and reviews, supporting education and recreational activities but also acting as a positive role model for the young people within our care.

I ran my own business as an industrial spray painter providing finishes to the construction trade and private customers. This meant covering all roles; sales and marketing, quality control, costing spray painting and delivering finished goods.
