Dementia Buddy
CurrentI learned about being friends with people with dementia through my sister Judy. During the 6 years between her diagnosis (Alzheimer's) and her passing away, Judy taught me how important it is to be loved, accepted as-is, free from criticism and correction. We enjoyed our share of Banana Splits at the old-fashioned S&T Soda Shoppe and the experiences together (highs and lows) re-engineered how I think about what is important and what's not. (ongoing) I've been fortunate to have been recruited since then to relieve caregivers buy taking their spouses out for golf or lunch or a movie. If you know a caregiver who is committed to caring for a loved one who has dementia, reach out with any service you can muster on their behalf. Few responsibilities are as difficult (or as lonely) as the task they have taken on.
