My current role with Gavia involves directing the ecology and contaminated land teams, whilst further expanding the business within Scotland. I work on a variety of projects of different scales, but specialise in providing support to large infrastructure projects. I am currently involved in a number of windfarms; the construction and refurbishment of overhead power lines and telecoms infrastructure; the maintenance of railway infrastructure; major road construction; and various commercial and residential developments. The primary purpose of our input into these projects is to provide specialist ecological, environmental, hydrological and archaeological advice and ensure compliance with all the relevant legislation. My role demands a pragmatic approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills and strong project management to support the delivery of projects, by the team, within the agreed timescales. In support of the continued growth of the company I have identified and developed new business sectors, various framework agreements and new clients.

I’m currently undertaking two roles for Gavia, initially I was recruited to develop and manage the contaminated land business with an emphasis on establishing this area as one of the core revenue generators. This is a role that further developed the skills I learnt and applied in my previous position. In addition, since the spring of 2021, I have undertaken the role of environmental advisor and manage a team of seven who are engaged in similar roles . Whilst the bulk of our work involves energy infrastructure projects my team has also been engaged on major road projects, various housing developments and a variety of large scale site investigations. The primary purpose of our input into these projects is to provide specialist environmental, hydrological and archaeological advice and ensure compliance with all the relevant legislation. I act as a liaison point for the client, the contractor undertaking the works, various statutory bodies and sub-contractors. The role demands a pragmatic approach to problem solving, excellent communication skills and strong project management to support the delivery of the project within the agreed timescales. The performance of the team has resulted in further opportunities with both existing and new clients.

I was responsible for the management and delivery of a wide variety of Contaminated Land Projects. The position necessitated a good technical and legislative knowledge, project management skills and an understanding of the commercial considerations involved in such projects. Frequently I would be part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of engineers, planners and architects, tasked with the delivery of development projects. As and when required I would apply for planning consent, permits and be responsible for the provision of information associated with the discharge of planning conditions. Latterly I served as the companies H&S manager and was responsible for the development, management and maintenance of the companies ISO45001, ISO14001 and ISO9001 accreditations. Where appointed, I would act as principal designer in respect to the 2015 CDM regulations.
