Project Management definitely isn’t the career path my parents envisioned for me--not that they’re disappointed with my choice or nudged me in a particular direction as a child (in fact that couldn’t be further from the truth)--but rather that a job that involved speaking with unfamiliar people on a daily basis would have been unthinkable until recently. A painfully shy child, I always found more comfort in the written word than verbal communication, and planned to find an editing job with a newspaper following graduation. You can probably guess why that didn’t work out. With the print media industry struggling to keep up with the burgeoning online domain, I was privileged to find a pair of internships that allowed me to further develop my writing skills in the form of social media management. However, it wasn’t until I began working in the service industry that I was forced out of my shell and into my passion. My time at Cafe Caturra helped me learn how much I enjoy making even a small positive difference in someone’s day (people are so thankful to get their morning coffee a few minutes early!), and I flourished in an environment where I was able to build and nurture relationships with my coworkers, restaurant regulars and local business owners we partnered with for events.I found myself yearning for the opportunity to combine my love of writing with my newfound social proficiency, and landed a job as an SEO Copywriter with Key Web Concepts. The challenge of learning an entirely new way of writing was invigorating, and I loved discovering all the little details that help cultivate online success. When the Project Manager role became available, I jumped at the chance to further my understanding of the web design industry. Communicating with clients and coworkers to create lasting relationships and deliver meaningful work has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m eager to continue my journey from timid teen to confident communicator to whatever challenge comes next.
