Geologic analyses and review of storage fields for determination of Midstream storage capacities and potential geological problems.

Buffalo/Niagara, New York Area

Responsible for black shale studies in the Appalachian Basin, focusing on Marcellus, Utica, Geneseo and Rhinestreet shales. Responsible for the collection of data, samples and the interpretation of geochemical/petrophysical analyses.Designing and permitting multi-lateral shale units in both Marcellus and Utica.Evaluated 60,000 potential acres in PA for acquisition.Evaluated fields in Central Texas; Alberta and British Columbia for possible partnership, joint ventures or acquisition.Other duties including overseeing internal permit/drilling approvals and development of the southern half of the company's central NY leasehold.Subsurface mapping of ~5,000 well logs throughout NY and PA. Identifying formations, members, unconformities, and correlating across counties and states.Generation of cross-sections, isopach and structural contour maps.Collaboration with geophysicists on seismic ties and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic programs.

Clastic Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher. Duties include well-log interpretation and Appalachian Basin stratigraphy for reservoirs spanning Cambrian to Pennsylvanian ageReservoir mapping (Net Sand, Porosity maps) of Medina, Whirlpool, and Upper Devonian sands in NY, PA, and OH. Assist in developing new prospects within the Appalachian Basin. Picked ~50 well locations in NY and PA for clients; Obtained a total of $200,000 in funding from competitive state and federal grants.Research grants include: Bedrock field mapping of eight, 7.5 minute, topographic quadrangles;Creation of numerous cross-sections for presentations and papers.Shipboard sedimentologist on ODP Cruise Leg 181, examined ~3km of shelf to slope sediments determining lithology and ichnofacies; Sedimentology, field stratigraphy and thin-section analyses for study of clastic and carbonate reservoirs in New York State (Cam. - Penn.).Sequence stratigraphy, paleoflow and depositional architecture of Upper Devonian oil/gas sandstones in western New York State; Compositional analysis of Upper Devonian black shales. Office/Grant manager for >$2 million in research grants for Jacobi and myself.

Continued research on Appalachian Basin depositional systems, basin-wide stratigraphy and developing a sequence stratigraphy model for the Upper Devonian in a region with syndepositional tectonic activity. Sponsored reasearch included geologic mapping, oil&gas sand depositional architecture, Devonian black shale reservoir potential as well as determining fairways and sweetspots in the Genesee River Valley, Finger Lake, and East-Central New York. Authored/co-authored over 30 papers and abstracts, co-lead 2 NYSGA field trips, and taught 1 shourt course on the tectonic evolution of the Appalachian Basin with Bob Jacobi.
