Determining the more conducive aggregate morphology changes due to difference in crushing mechanismsAggregate transfers load from surface to ground through point-to-point contact. Hence, difference in morphological characteristics influences the strength and stability of pavement. The crushing mechanisms determine these properties. So, we determine which crushing mechanism is more conducive for pavement construction.1.1 Methodology: We compare the variations in aggregate characteristics such as angularity, texture, sphericity due to two different crushing mechanism (Jaw-HSI and Jaw-Cone-VSI) using aggregate image measurement system. 1.2 Findings: We find that the aggregates produced from the first mechanism has higher F&E ratio, higher texture and lower sphericity as compared to the second mechanism. As a result, we suggest that the Jaw-HSI is a better crushing mechanism for road construction as compared to Jaw-Cone-VSI.1.3 Publications: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Gaurav-Garg-15 2. To determine the failures due to variations in bitumen coating over timeWhile designing bitumen pavement there can be variation in quantity of bitumen which leads to different types of failures. Image processing can help in determining the coating ratio for the pavement.2.1 Methodology: The samples were photographed, and image filters were applied to determine the percentage of bitumen on the surface.2.2 Findings: The safe range for the bitumen coating on the surface was determined. It was determined that if bitumen coating is more than 80%, it leads to bleeding failure and for less than 60%, it leads to raveling failure.2.3 Source code: https://github.com/ggarg0405/agg-imging -

Data modeling to study transport behavior for the new Mumbai Metro lineWe determine the frequency of transport required on different days of week through surveying and modelling 1.1 Methodology: The website for survey was designed using Google Maps API and Google Sheets API. The survey was conducted along the travel route designated for the metro line. The data was cleaned and modified according to the requirements and design for the approximate frequency needed was modelled.1.2 Findings: Frequency of metro required for different days of week was determined for metro line 2B.2. Determining the factors influencing urban modes of transport choice in MumbaiThere are various factors such as age, gender, income, vehicle availability, etc. that influences the choice for transport in urban environment. The project determines the few factors that are major influencer for the choice.2.1 Methodology: A correlation matrix was drawn using SPSS to eliminate the correlated factors. Next the variance in data was used to eliminate the outliers. The resulting data was used for modelling using NLOGIT 5.2.2 Findings: It was found that travel time and travel cost, cleanliness preference, household income and the cost preference are the factors that influences the transport choice in Mumbai Metropolitan region. -
