As Assistant General Counsel of Products & Technology, I support Workday's Workforce Management suite of software products in areas of legal compliance.

I provide advice and counsel to Workday's product teams to ensure our software offerings support our customers' compliance needs. With a primary focus on our Core HCM, Payroll, Absence, Scheduling and Time Tracking products, I leverage my years of employment law and wage and hour experience to make sure we provide exceptional value and up-to-date compliance functionality to our customers.

As an Associate Attorney at Littler Mendelson, I provided litigation and advice and counsel services to a wide variety of clients in the areas of Labor and Employment Law. I handled labor disputes, discrimination matters, and wage and hour claims both on an individual and class action basis, including issues related to the FLSA, Title VII, FEHA, ADA, ADEA, FCRA, and other state and federal employment laws. I also represented clients in traditional labor matters including unfair labor practice charges and labor grievances. I consulted for clients on employment policies and practices, reviewed and drafted employee handbooks, and conducted numerous workplace investigations for clients into discrimination and harassment complaints. I handled matters before various administrative agencies including the state Labor Commissioner, the EDD, the Public Employment Relations Board, as well as in state and federal court. I also provided training presentations for clients in a variety of areas including Sexual Harassment Training, Workplace Investigations and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporting.

Labor and Employment associate, serving both private sector and public sector clients. My practice involved all aspects of litigation as well as advice and counsel. My duties included handling cases from inception through trial, including preparing responsive pleadings; preparing and responding to written discovery; taking and defending depositions, including plaintiffs, witnesses, and experts; drafting and arguing discovery motions; conducting mediations and arbitrations; negotiating settlements, and preparing cases for trial. I handled a wide array of matters - both single plaintiff and class action - including discrimination and retaliation matters, wage and hour matters, labor disputes, employee discipline, and workplace/complaint investigations. I also conducted extensive trainings for clients in a variety of labor and employment topics.

Represented Spanish-speaking clients in a variety of employment-related claims including: sexual discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour disputes.

Provided legal services to foreign professors seeking Permanent Residence, preparing and submitting applications for Labor Certification, Petitions for Adjustment of Status, and Outstanding and Extraordinary Scholar petitions. Worked with professors and University Department Human Resource staff to assemble and draft all required documentation and recruitment reports.

Completed various projects for the Litigation, Latin American, and Corporate Transactions divisions including: Drafted sections of a Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals brief on Convention Against Torture claims and withholding of removal in an asylum appeal. Advocated in Bronx Family Court for battered women seeking protective and custody orders. Analyzed corporate charter documents and trust agreements in Spanish for a Mexican company and prepared a memo summarizing the company equity structure. Researched developments and emerging trends in sub-prime mortgage lending litigation. Served as a member of the Diversity Committee.

Worked on various projects for the Business Litigation and BusinessLaw divisions including: Drafted sections of an Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals brief on defenses for spoliation of evidence. Researched issues of liability regarding condemnation of contaminated property. Reviewed trial transcripts of a Mexican national convicted of murder, identified evidence of prejudice due to Vienna Convention violations, and presented the findings to the Mexican Consulate. Translated for Spanish-speaking clients.

Supervised a team of eight volunteer interns taking on various legal advocacy projects for the Latino Community including an Immigration Law Forum, an Outreach Immigration Clinic, and voter registration projects. Performed legal research and assistance on a multi-state class action law suit. Planned, coordinated and hosted “Proyecto Puentes,” a community forum paneled by the Mayor of Minneapolis, the Chief of Police and the Mexican Consul.
