I've been a teacher for years, and then, in 2002 went back to school for a counseling degree...and discovered poetry therapy and, specifically, Clean Language, a systematic questioning technique for counseling and coaching that works with a client's personal, embodied metaphors--the language of their subconscious--to promote clarity, healing, and change. Using mostly the client's exact words and his/her desired outcomes and following the logic of his/her metaphors--I facilitate the client's self-exploration. It is profoundly respectful of the client's knowing and self-pacing. What surprised me was to realize how, over time, this technique guides a client to relearn how to access and trust their own knowing of what is right for them. What a gift! I find every session I do with clients fascinating. And I trust the process! I'm not the one having to determine what the client should try next or how to go about it; using the process, the client guides that. I am looking to help clients explore themselves,not explain themselves.As an innate teacher at heart, once I mastered this technique, I wanted to teach it to others.
