I am currently in my 20th year as an educator. Earning a degree in special education, I began my career as a 6th grade special education teacher in Carroll County, MD. In this position I was responsible for co-teaching all academic classes as well as teaching the Wilson Reading intervention. During my time In Carroll County Public Schools I became a certified instructor of Wilson. I also held a case load of around 25 students. I was responsible for keeping data on the students' IEP goals, writing annual IEPs and quarterly progress reports. I then moved to Anne Arundel County Maryland and began teaching at Central Middle School. There I also taught 6th grade special education in the areas of Math and Science. During that time I became certified in Middle School Mathematics. I held a caseload of around 20 and managed IEP meetings, kept data on students' progress as well as wrote annual IEPs and quarterly progress reports. After a year I made the move to Severna Park High School in Severna Park Maryland to begin a new position in our county at the time, IEP Facilitator. After four years as Facilitator, I moved into the Special Education Department Chair position at SPHS. In this position I managed the 10 teachers in my department as well as the 5-10 hourly employees. I oversaw the co-taught classrooms and acted as an instructional coach for my teachers and contact person for all parents of students with special education service. In 2014, I completed my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis on Leadership. I also earned my Administrator I certificate shortly after. After 9 years at SPHS, I was in need of a change and had always wanted to teach at the elementary level. In the 2019-20 school year I obtained a 4th grade teaching position at Southgate Elementary, a Title I and PYP/IB World School. With a class of 25-30 students I was responsible for teaching every subject area, maintaining a standards based grade book, social skills lessons, parent communication, behavior management, etc. I enjoyed my time back in the classroom and feel that it was necessary to become a better teacher leader. After three years in that role, I moved back in my previous position, Special Education Department Chair, at Chesapeake Science Point (Public Charter School). At CSP, I hold the role of IEP Facilitator and Department Chair. Always supporting my teachers and advocating for students with disabilities.
