I strive to accomplish business goals by building and improving software systems. In doing so, I relish the opportunity to learn new skills and to strengthen old ones, and the camaraderie of working with others to solve difficult challenges.Of the roles that I can play, I feel most confident in my ability to contribute to a web application as an engineer. Over my career, though, I have come to appreciate that software is primarily about people. Software is written by people, for people. The feelings and goals of people are always at the root of any project. So in doing technical work I strive to empathize with my team and my users and to remember that software is not just about the computer, but about us.Beyond work, what drives me? Well, on Saturday morning, you'll find me paddling out at Ocean Beach. Also on Sunday. Maybe even Wednesday if I get up early enough and the swell is good. I really like surfing.
Listed skills include Python, Javascript, Css, Mysql, and 15 others.

I joined the PlanGrid team shortly after they were acquired by Autodesk.I build software that helps contractors and owners in commercial, heavy civil, and other industries to work together throughout the project lifecycle. Most of my work has been on the frontend, in React + Typescript.

Zoomforth is a site builder (like Wix, Weebly, SquareSpace, etc.) built for enterprise sales teams. As the CTO, I aligned our team toward priorities and served as a steward of our engineering culture. I worked to understand what makes an engineering team excel, and to use that knowledge as a guide for improving myself and our team.I spent a great deal of time working on our product directly, doing full-stack engineering on our AWS / Python / React.js stack.I also worked on hiring engineers when doing so was strategic, managed the small engineering team, and collaborated a great deal with the CEO on company and product strategy.

- worked with Python, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL, and ElasticSearch.- improved our external data indexing pipeline: built an asynchronous system for large-scale downloading and caching of http resources- delivered on a 7-figure contract for a custom API- developed an ad display service that served locally targeted ads on publishers' sites.- frequently worked with large data sets (e.g. every small business in America, or every piece of news in America). In the second half of my tenure at Radius, we pivoted from a local news service to a local business lead generation product. As part of that pivot, we made exceptional progress on a new product. Within 9 months we had customers for it and were able to raise a strong series B round. At Radius I had the opportunity to work alongside many other talented and experienced software engineers. I'm grateful for their mentorship.
I developed a network of humorous websites. They included unrelatedcaptions.com, averagecats.com, lolplants.com, obviouscaptions.com, inventedfacts.com, imgist.com, averagetextsfromlastnight.com, and mylifeisaverage.com (sold in 2009).I was responsible for the technical aspects of the initial deployment and continued success of these sites. From the idea through the design, implementation, and maintenance, I experienced the full lifecycle of these projects, and learned a lot from that.Of these sites, mylifeisaverage.com was by far the most popular and was regularly receiving more than 2 million pageviews per day. I sold the site in order to spend more time improving my technical skills.I customized Wordpress according to my needs for most of these sites, building custom WP plugins and modifying databases to better handle the scale. I used Google's DFP to manage and sell ads on these properties. Over the course of these projects, I improved my skills at PHP, Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and server administration.

As a lab assistant in the "Program in Computing" lab, I assisted students with their C++ and web software projects. This work included debugging C++ in Visual Studios 2005, explaining programming and internet concepts to students, and general Windows XP troubleshooting. Additionally, in my final year I was promoted to "Head" assistant and took shared responsibility for interviewing and hiring a team of nine other Lab Assistants, and managing that team so as to ensure smooth operation of the computer lab.Over the course of my time there, I worked with my manager to improve the PIC lab on many levels, including developing a new website for it using the drupal CMS.
