I have over 30 years experience of both teaching and research in STEM disciplines (including Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science and Engineering) in the Higher Education Sector, and have carried out collaborative projects with Industry, UK Government Laboratories, and with Educational Institutions and NGOs overseas.My recent research work has been primarily focused on applications of A.I. to the Environmental Sciences, but I have also worked on Speech and Language Processing, on Medical Applications, and other domains such as Sports Analystics.I have been an external examiner at PhD level at various Universities in the U.K. (including the Universities of Bangor, Essex, Surrey and at Imperial College London), and also at "La Sapienza" University of Rome, Italy, and universities in India and Pakistan. I have recently become an external examiner at undergraduate (BSc) level at another UK university.I have a BA in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge (Churchill College), an MSc in Electronic Engineering & Computer Science and a PhD in Speech, Hearing and Phonetic Sciences (Computer Speech Technology), both from University College London.Prior to joining Kingston University as a Senior Lecturer in 2003, I had previously worked as a researcher at the British Antarctic Survey, the University of Portsmouth and University College London, and as a Lecturer at St. Mary's College (now St. Mary's University, Twickenham) and the University of Westminster.My research interests encompass many aspects of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (especially Statistically-Based Learning) and their applications - particularly to monitoring of insects (especially bees), speech and language processing, to healthcare and in education). I also have interests in Mathematical & Computational Modelling in Sport, in Educational Technology for assisting the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Computer Science, and in Statistical Physics.
