Principal ArchitectCharter Communications (Formerly Time Warner Cable) Apr 2012 - Apr 2020Charlotte, North Carolina, United StatesServing as a principal architect for the OSS group, I was responsible for designing software solutions in response to business needs. In that role, I took business requirements and translated them into a number of design artifacts which fed into the development organizations to facilitate their work. Other responsibilities included strategic architecture planning (maturity, improved efficiency, reduced costs), core service data management, evaluating vended platforms, prototyping, and managing the organization's work intake queue.Lead architectural design for key projects. Contributed to entire design lifecycle including evaluation of business requirements, authoring architectural documentation and providing guidance to responsible development organizations - all while balancing customer expectations and changing priorities.Developed a Canonical Data Model for nodes, circuits, service offerings, and other key data elements in the enterprise. Inventoried all enterprise data sources and rationalized them to identify "Source of Truth" for each data element. Developed Master Data Management (MDM) roadmap to increase data integrity & maturity over time. Introduced data virtualization to centralize core business rules governing data management and abstract the underlying data sources. This approach allowed us to reduce the number of point-to-point integrations and ensure consistent data governance by all downstream data consumers.Provided architectural guidance for performance monitoring solutions for various ethernet-based commercial offerings. Work involved evaluation of vended solutions, verifying compliance with open standards, producing architectural design artifacts and providing guidance to development organizations. -
Principal Software EngineerComcast Aug 2007 - Mar 2012West Chester, Pennsylvania, United StatesActive Event Filter - Architected and built solution for performing operational fault data enrichment for high-volume, real-time event flow. Implemented integration to existing vended event manager Netcool, which allowed for bidirectional synchronization of metadata between Netcool and the Active Event Filter management tool. AEF is an MVC web application I developed that allows for granular and conditional attachment of metadata to events based on a custom rules syntax. The application included both user and group permissioning along with robust auditing.Aggregation Engine - Architected and built an aggregation system for Comcast’s performance warehouse. System allowed for definition/creation of aggregation tasks by customers including summarization by topology (location, application, organization, etc), arbitrary groupings, and time. Implementation supported numerous algorithms (mean, percentile, quantile, standard deviation, etc) which could be leveraged by the customer. Service was designed to maximize resource efficiency and compute aggregates at near realtime with minimal memory overhead. Features include calculation of a statistical “weight” of any computed values, automatic backfilling of data when the live performance data feed is interrupted, and complex job management.Audit Engine - Proposed, designed and developed a topology discovery and auditing service for Comcast’s commercial products (last-mile ethernet, cell tower backhaul, etc). Service would passively interrogate network elements for their respective configurations, resolve endpoints (at various levels of the network stack), capture relevant data and store it in a persistent CMDB. System would look for misconfigurations, deviations from standard templates, unresolved connections, etc and provide reporting to appropriate customers. Development of this system involved direct communication with network hardware vendors, impact studies, and coordination with internal security. -
Senior Software EngineerSycamore Networks Aug 2004 - Jul 2007Moorestown, New Jersey, United StatesDesigned and developed applications and utilities in the ENvision Network Management portfolio of products. Primary effort was architecture, design, and implementation of the ENvision Lite EMS product which featured a new and robust XML communication and presentation framework. Participated in development team responsible for maintaining the ENvision Plus NMS product, which required working knowledge of SNMP, SONET/SDH, SQL (specifically Microsoft SQL Server), TCP communications, and user interface design. Additional responsibilities included supervising interns and contributing to various architectural and design efforts (including a Universal Framework for network management of third-party hardware and a Northbound Interface for collation and reporting of network alarms to an external data store). -
Software EngineerSungard Data Management Solutions Dec 2001 - Aug 2004Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United StatesDesigned and developed both Windows applications and web services as part of Sungard's market data delivery product suite. Built a Win32 application for Nasdaq Level 2 data processing and display. Enhanced features in existing Historical Database, Time & Sales, and Online Symbol Guide Win32 applications. Implemented a web interface to a Dow Jones and Comtex news story database. Developed a Java servlet entitlements engine providing a common user-data API. -
