Program Associate & Engagement Coordinator
It was a great privilege to work with New Neighbors Partnership as Program Associate and Engagement Coordinator to build relationships and develop programming to welcome newly arrived families by helping them forge positive social connections with local families who can provide emotional, informational, and concrete support as they resettle. In this role, I worked to build relationships with other organizations and prioritize participants' voices in the program planning process. Here are some of the things I accomplished:• Lead meetings with nonprofits and private corporations to establish sustainable relationships• Plan and carry out a comprehensive program evaluation and facilitate staff brainstorming sessions to incorporate feedback• Research advisory council models to establish a community council• Pilot the Community Dinner Program to respond to participants' desire for communtiy connection and support during the resettlement period• Develop a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign by creating a suite of communication material including email templates, social media posts, and newsletters
Project Manager
I had the pleasure of working with Restoring Dignity, a grassroots nonprofit that works with the diverse refugee community of Omaha.Chiefly, I worked to increase equitable access to translated emergency alerts and materials. Working with local public agencies, I have determined a multi-pronged approach to increasing awareness. This campaign matches the need of the refugee and immigrant community of Omaha to culturally appropriate emergency alert resources. Additionally, in this role I had the opportunity to achieve the following:• Establish a multilingual emergency response system for the city of Omaha in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services• Develop a specialized volunteer program that maximizes the use of the volunteer program by matching volunteers' unique skills to projects needed by the organization• Initiate research to strategize partnerships between Restoring Dignity and corporations to permanently fund programs• Accompany refugee families as they navigate adjusting to the United States by shadowing family education programs and family shopping with the Furniture Project• Direct organization’s response to advocate for an end to Source of Income Discrimination and other discriminatory housing policies by writing 5 letters to legislators, attending housing bi-weekly coalition meetings, and reading policy briefs• Conduct quarterly staff trainings to expand awareness by designing and presenting comprehensive educational material
Peer Education Manager
• Organize and plan events to engage students in discussions about relationships and wellbeing• Undertake quantitative research to determine barriers to reporting sexual assault on campus and present recommendations for making reports more approachable
Local Community Engagement Team
• Facilitate local service and advocacy in peer groups to increase awareness and foster meaningful community relationships• Engage in civic engagment through formal legislative visits with representatives and senator to discuss migrants' rights
