I work during both normal running and disruptive events to deliver a safe and efficient service that meets the needs of the customers and passengers. I manage the daily train service making proactive regulating decisions where required and implementing service recovery plans during times of perturbation, including undertaking discussions with the train operator about resourcing, and communicate with signallers, TOCs, FOCs and other routes where necessary. I create VSTP schedules and carry out planned cancellations where required and log all train running information and events in CCIL, and I provide advice about short term possession planning and the impact on the train service. I have recently been appointed as a training mentor for new Train Running Controllers.

Employed at Three Bridges ROC for the Thameslink Core link. Responsible for the safe and efficient running of the train service including adhering to all Network Rail rules and regulation policies. Comply with all appropriate procedures during and after engineering works and ensure the correct protections are applied to ensure the safety of Network Rail staff and contractors.Before the signalling floor went live, I was responsible for using the simulator to train the incoming signallers in how to use WestCAD and signal both the London Bridge Central and Thameslink Core links. I wrote and produced the official training plans for the London Bridge Central, East Sussex workstations and Thameslink Core workstations.

Route Performance Measurement Manager

Overall responsibility for Delay Attribution and Resolution on the Sussex Route and managing a team of six staff. Responsible for ensuring consistent compliance with all industry performance processes ensuring Sussex was regularly top of the National KPI report. Where shortfalls did occur I led the development and implementation of remedial action plans. I liaised with all stakeholders to proactively agree and communicate services provided by the RPMM team, including key responsibilities, timescales and levels of communication for dispute resolution and initiation. I worked with these stakeholders seeking feedback to improve relationships, communication and behaviours.I was responsible for devising and implementing a contingency delay attribution team to ensure Sussex Route maintained its ability to attribute delay during major disruption. I also led a lost time in running project working with relevant parties to propose solutions. As part of a joint project with the Route Performance Analyst and the Performance Improvement Coordinator I also worked with the Operations team to develop a positive measure for signaller regulation decisions for PPM by signalling panel at Victoria and Three Bridges, in order to highlight successful and less successful interventions.I acted as the Route Performance Manager for 6 months, reporting directly to the Route Director, and in addition to my RPMM duties which required me to also manage the Performance improvement Managers and Performance Analyst. I supervised the team ensuring they analysed performance trends and identified subsequent improvement opportunities which were discussed and implemented after agreement with the Route Director’s senior team. I ensured all improvement plans were being tracked through to completion and supervised the team who measured the effects of the schemes, providing advice on priorities where necessary as well as feedback and updates to internal and external stakeholders.

Directly responsibility for approximately 30 signallers. I undertook regular duties to ensure safety and compliance including conducting signaller voice monitoring, operational checks, inspections of signalboxes, updating and maintaining signaller competencies and providing additional monitoring and support to staff where needed. I was also responsible for investigating operating incidents including SPAD’s, signaller errors and engineering possession irregularities. I was responsible for budgetary control of my cost centre and produced a business case to reduce overall spending for the route.I was the nominated deputy for the Sussex Operations Manager Outer and at times acted as the both the Operations Manager Inner and Outer. I chaired the morning conference which monitored daily performance and incidents on the route, collated the outputs, followed up outstanding investigations and updated the action tracker. I jointly chaired the LOM’s meeting and undertook Operations Manager quarterly checks to ensure LOM’s compliance with the Operations Manual standards. I attended SPIR reviews, SEAJIT meetings and carried out risk assessments. I chaired Local Delivery Group meetings with the TOC’s and I regularly conversed with Trust Delay and Schedule 8 staff to resolve many difficult delay incidents. I developed an excellent working relationship with many other departments including S&T, Telecoms, Safety Publications and Sussex Route Control. I conducted interviews for Signallers and Mobile Operations Managers and was involved in inductions and training for the successful candidates. I completed the Stepping Stones Programme for Frontline Leaders and have previously passed courses as an Assessor, in Leadership Skills, Six Sigma Express, PTS, IWA, RIO and RAIB accreditation.
