Launched a new company manufacturing a range of handcrafted timber furniture in South Africa to be sold on the South African market and exported to the UK. The start-up phase has been completed and has started production. During this start-up phase my responsibilities included sourcing raw material, setting up a manufacturing hub and put in place the supply chain functions. The business will be developed in South Africa over the next 2 years before entering the UK Market.

Assist executive management as required in aligning the Company’s workflows to meet its future needs and to achieve accelerated growth. • Signed a second fixed term contract, reporting directly to the Group CEO, to project manage the introduction of Sage Evolution in the Stores, Procurement and Workshops including implementing the changes to the workflow processes• This included the full integration of workshop inventory and maintenance operational management with company and Group financial accounting and detailed cost management and reporting • Responsible for “Go Live” of the above project at two of the Group companies to ensure seamless inception and testing before the roll out across the Group• Project managed the trial of a driver behaviour modification programme using In-Vehicle Monitoring Systems linked to video and data analysis to assess and driver behaviour and improve efficiencies

Reporting directly to the CEO Mozambique, was responsible for implementing a change process within J&J’s workshop, stores and procurement division at the head office in Beira, Mozambique.The focus was on defining, implementing, improving and maintaining state of the art systems, implementing strategies to improve performance as listed below.• Joined the company on a fixed term two year contract reporting directly to the Country CEO• Effectively restructured the 149 staff headcount into a coherent team, with a clear focus on cost efficiency, accurate record keeping and consistent compliance with safety standards and regulations• Held responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of both assets and fleet; ensuring the aligned operation of the workshop, stores and procurement teams towards shared goals • Responsible for streamlining systems, developing potential efficiencies and costs savings, and introducing best practice standardisations to ensure compliance with Group and external standards• Drove engagement and communication across all levels of the organisation; thereby optimising resource usage and the quality and efficiency in complex information flows • Provided oversight to each project within the process including planning project scope, identifying investment requirements, managing budgets and ensuring alignment with overall strategy• Successfully concluded the transformation project ahead of anticipated timeframe and was re-tasked to assist in the implementation of the best practices in the Zimbabwe branch and second Business Unit in Mozambique.• Tasked to project manage a team of IT developers to modify the functional and reporting systems with the Workshop, Stores and Procurement modules of the companies Freight Management System• Consolidated the procurement and Stores of two Business units to reduce costs• Changed supply agreements and procurement policies resulting in significant cost savings

I was responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the company including production, financial management, forest management, import and export, marketing and sales, furniture design and human resource management.Since 1996 I drove the company’s revenue by an average of 11% per annum and led the company through a series of significant change processes including the translocation of a large portion of the production facility into the forestry concession, the diversification of the business into added value production, retail directly to end users, tourism, consultancy, game farm management, obtaining a mining licence and undertaking a bankable feasibility study for a lime mine. My role concluded with the transfer of management to an AIM-listed investor in the business. During my time at TCT I led a team of over 300 staff and together we took the company from securing and operating a legally licensed 25,000 hectare forestry concession contract, through implementation of an extensive programme of forest and environmental management, reforestation and development of a furniture brand to the point at which an international investor bought in. My role combined operations, finance, logistics and administration, along with project management. I designed and implemented systems-based management for all aspects of the company’s operations from stock and quality control, through procurement, human resource and financial management to forest inventory.I directly managed the design of the TCT Dalmann furniture range, brought these designs through prototype into manufacture and implemented the business strategy to market.I worked on a wildlife management and protection programme within the concession, which was granted game farm status, and promoted scientific research and investigation of the flora and fauna within the concession resulting in the creation of the most extensive hybarium of Miombo species in Mozambique.

As ex chair of the board of ACIS I was responsible for coordinating the activities of the organisation to achieve the annual agreed plans, I meet with other business people, government officials and representatives of bilateral aid and donor organisations. In October 2011 I stepped down after 11 years but remained on the Board until September 2013 to allow for continuity.
