Oversaw LIRS’s legislative advocacy on refugee protection, immigrant rights, human rights, and appropriations. Led LIRS’s administrative advocacy with the White House, NSC, State, DHS, OMB, and HHS. Managed the Washington DC legislative office and developed LIRS’s advocacy strategy in conjunction with leadership. Led Lutheran church grassroots campaigns. Successes include the enactment of the 2008 Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Oversaw research and advocacy agenda for a national refugee resettlement and human rights organization. Conducted field research in sub-Saharan African. Edited the Africa, Europe and Asia regions of the annual World Refugee Survey. Launched the 2004 international “Refugee Warehousing” campaign. Supervised team of 10 staff. Launched the first national pro bono program for unaccompanied children after winning $500,000 grant from UNHCR ambassador Angelina Jolie.

San Francisco

Represented minors in delinquency, dependency, education and immigration matters. Launched the Detained Immigrant Children Project, representing 120 children each year in immigration court proceedings.

Conducted legal research and drafted legal opinions for a federal appeals judge.

Boston

Launched a community-based advocacy center for Asian Pacific American immigrant victims of racial and ethnic violence. Provided services and advocated on behalf of nearly 30 victims of vandalism, beatings, gang attacks, and other forms of hate violence in criminal court.
