Greg left a secure career at Shell in 1993 for greener pastures, quite literally, and a career in wine.Vintessential was born out of Greg’s trips to France as a fledgling winemaker, where he was inspired to create regional wine laboratories back here in Australia, bringing a local source of testing, science and advice for those practising the black art of winemaking.As an oenologist, chemist and scientist, he is eminently qualified to lead a growing team of fellow technicians at Vintessential Laboratories in five winemaking regions.Over the last 21 years under his guidance, the company has built its expertise beyond testing and developed a range of innovative products with a booming export market.Apart from supplying laboratory reagents and equipment, Vintessential also manufactures its own Enzymatic test kits, the only ones made in Australia. Now sold worldwide, these products won the WBM Export Award at WISA’s Supplier of the Year ceremony in 2013.Inevitably, that also led WBM magazine to nominate Greg as an “unsung hero” of the wine industry and one of its 50 Stars of 2013.Expanding on its services but remaining true to its core, Vintessential Laboratories now analyse beer, cider, spirits, water, soil and plant material, as well as distribute the famous Oenobrands products of Anchor Yeast and Rapidase Enzymes nationally.
