I'm a highly motivated BABCP registered Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, with a background in occupational therapy, mental health support work and volunteering in a variety mental health settings. I am looking to continue to develop my skills, knowledge and career within the IAPT system. I have a particular passion for marginalised groups within mental healthcare such as those with personality disorders or autistic people, having worked with people from these populations.With my background in occupational therapy I use the approach of adapting existing valued activities with problem solving, with an understanding of role loss involved in typical life events that activate mental health conditions, using activity analysis in my approach to Long Term Conditions within IAPT. I have experience working with people who have mental health challenges with anxiety depression, Schizophrenia, those with substance misuse problems, psychosis, autism, and personality disorders. I have experience with daily risk management around suicide, self- harm, self-neglect, alcohol, drugs and issues around safeguarding as a Trainee PWP and in other roles. I have a working knowledge of the MCA and MHA. I also have a working knowledge of medications used in the treatment of depression, anxiety and psychosis and their side effects, through helping my residents to manage their own medications and my PWP training. I have co-designed and delivered a psychosocial group work session for teenage children around stress management as part of my occupational therapy degree. I continually reflect on my clinical practice and look for areas for me to develop, to this end I have studied short course Motivational Interviewing, and read books on CFT, DBT, ACT and trauma, aspects of which I use in my daily practice, enhancing my ability to teach coping skills. I am currently researching Compassion Focused Therapy as a possible interest for CPD in the future. I have a deep curiosity in psychology. I believe my strength as a PWP is my ability to establish a warm safe relationship through my use of humour, genuine curiosity about the client’s life and experiences, reassurance and validation of client’s experiences.
