Profile bio

About Greg O'Lone

25 year object-oriented software development veteran who has excellent troubleshooting skills. I have a knack for picking up new programming and scripting languages and have had the opportunity to work with many over the last decade or so, including but not limited to: JavaScript, Typescript, Bash, Groovy, basic C++, Objective-C, C# and most recently Swift and SwiftUI. I had my own full-time software development company in Jacksonville, FL from 1999 to 2008, doing various desktop and web projects for local businesses as well as subcontracting on multimedia training tools for CSX and the U.S. Navy. While at Xojo Inc I had the amazing opportunity to architect an automated web hosting system which integrates with their Xojo IDE product, allowing users to design and test their app locally and then with a single command, build, compress, upload and decompress their app onto a Linux server where an Apache load balancer is automatically configured and the app is set up as a service to run on multiple cores. It's a work of art that took about 1.5 years to design and implement working along with my other duties. The product grew many times over including a web-based control panel (built in Xojo). In this position I also designed and implemented from scratch version 2 of their proprietary web framework layer built upon jQuery and Bootstrap, also for their IDE development product. This position also took me to the world of DevOps as we outgrew the ability to do manual builds. I took on the job of researching and implementing the engineering build system, reducing our build times from roughly 18 hours manually down to 2.5 hours though CI/CD. After the departure of the developer that was responsible for the macOS and iOS frameworks, I took on those responsibilities to get a chance to fix bugs and implement new features in a pair of large objective-c frameworks. During this time, I added cross-platform dark mode support, Local and Remote iOS User Notifications and on-device iOS debugging. TL;DR: I've never shied away from challenges in my career. I've taught night classes at a community college, managed an electronic prepress team, owned and operated a software development company, developed large-scale business management applications, collaborated on teams using Subversion and Git and written code in more languages than I have fingers. I have 15 years of remote-work experience with a home office and isolated networks for home and work. Now I'm looking for my next challenge and hoping to put my Objective-C/Swift/AppKit/SwiftUI skills to good use.
