I am working to develop this valuable and exciting initiative with my partners. We are creating a state of the art training facility for the field of wildlife forensic to train professionals and students from around the world. My responsibilities are the development of the curriculum, facility, partnership building and marketing. This is a fantastic initiative that will make a difference in a needed field.

I started this clinic with another partner. We developed it into a busy practice providing a veterinary service to the community. The partnership has since changed and the practice has also expanded in staff and infrastructure. I have learnt a vast amount about developing a business and human resources as well as trying to provide for animal and human welfare.

I started the Hluvukani Animal Clinic and student rotation to train students to work in resource limited settings in communities outside the Kruger National Park, South Africa. The idea being the students would be better trained veterinary surgeons for woking in these settings once qualified. The rotation was voted one of the best by the students and I played an active role in using veterinary medicine to promote animal and public health as well as education and animal production. We developed an interaction with the University of Witwatersrand Medical Faculty students on a public health rotation to create a true “One Health” medical and veterinary student training module. Facilitation of multiple research projects and ongoing weekly school talks as part of the Mnisi Community Program.I then worked as a manager at the Hans Hoheisen Wildlife Research Station to develop training and research at the station and in the surrounding area. A training and research plan was developed. It included the development of a master’s of Wildlife Health, Ecology and Management that has since been accepted by the UP senate. $96 000 in funding was raised for the implementation of the MSc. R300 000 in funding was raised for calibration and servicing of laboratory equipment.We also helped develop a strong research program, looking at diseases and social and economic aspects of animal health and education.

Frontier Vets is a 13 part reality series based on the activities of 8 veterinary students, their challenges and patients as they run the Hluvukani Animal Clinic. Responsibilities: Dr Greg is their guide and mentor facilitating their character arcs in this docu-soap series. Raising funds to facilitate the filming and editing of the series. Developing relationships to market the product. The TV series had 13 episodes each with a wildlife case and interesting domestic animal characters. The series was sold in many countries in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.

The forest camp in the Conkuoati National Park was established to reintroduced captive chimpanzees into the wild. The organisation successfully reintroduced captive chimpanzees into the wild. Veterinary surgeon ensuring health of released and sanctuary based chimpanzees, compiled research data collected daily by auxiliaries on activities of chimpanzees, such as feeding and behaviour, and assisted with management of the forest camp.Ensured the health of released and sanctuary chimpanzees and successfully managed data collection and collation.

The Health Systems Trust is an organisation conducting research and program development in the field of human health sciences since 1992 in South Africa. Their work is predominantly with government and have been fundamental in improving health systems in South Africa. Responsibilities: Literature review on Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) for HIV in Southern Africa, focusing on necessary infrastructure, assessment of services and sites, monitoring and evaluation of sites and gaps in the delivery of V.C.T. for use in Performance Assessment of 300 VCT sites in 3 Provinces in South Africa. Consultant on Performance Assessment of 300 VCT sites for the Department of Health. Achievements: Completion of a performance assessment of 300 VCT sites in South Africa with associated recommendations. Assisted in compilation and presentation of data from EpiInfo, project report and recommendations.

Company profile: DEFRA is the governmental body responsible for disease control in the United Kingdom. They managed the 2001 Foot and Mouth disease virus outbreak.Responsibilities: Managed a team of 20 veterinarians searching for new cases of Foot and Mouth disease within 3 kilometres of Foot and Mouth disease infected premises. Our findings devastated many of the farmers and gaining their cooperation required delicate negotiation and trust building. During post-outbreak surveillance, I managed a team of over 35 veterinarians and administrative staff in mapping and blood sampling of farms in outbreak areas to ensure they were disease free before restrictions were lifted. Responsibilities included training new team members and attending weekly divisional meetings. Assisted with the compilation of data onto a G.I.S. (Arcview).Achievements: Controlling the outbreak of FMD and trying to minimise the destruction that it and associated control policies caused.
